Eyecare e-Referral Service API standard
An API standard for eyecare referrals. This API standard supports auto-population of digital referral platforms used when referring patients to NHS services from a community optometry consultation. The standard is being developed in conjunction with NHSX, NHSE and the optometry supplier community. Note this is an API standard to support the development of direct integration between suppliers - NHS Digital are not building a callable API centrally.

paul Newell (Chair Sefton Local optical committee)Absolutely essential, since the introduction of choose and book, certian sections of primary care have been left well behind. we desparately need an electronic referral pathway that allows the different practice management systems and other optical practice referral software packages to be able to speak to each other in a unified way . having to re enter patient information several times into several different pieces of software to provide information already contained in our patient records is at best extremely frustrating and time consumin and at worst, create patient safety issues.
